News Release

Nominees for NWAC Board Members

August 26, 2009

Our association elects members to the Board of Directors (Leadership Team) at our annual convocation, which this year will take place at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, Signal Mountain, Tennessee, October 4, 5 and 6.

A. Procedure. We do have a nominating committee which is about the task of recruiting new board members. While nominations from the floor at the convocation are always appropriate, like many organizations, we have found the best approach is to discuss the obligations of board membership with those who may be willing to serve prior to the convocation. This process ensures everyone is clear on what is expected of a board member.

B. Qualifications. Qualifications as set forth in the bylaws are as follows:

Section 3.2 – Election of Directors. Appointment and election of Directors shall honor the following principles to achieve Board representation that:

  1. Contains reasonable balance of elders/ministers, men/women, and larger/smaller churches.
  2. Reasonably represents the geographic regions of the PC (USA), its racial/ethnic members, and its diverse ages and callings.

C. Expectations.

  1. Participate in monthly conference calls to address the affairs of the association.
  2. Attend the annual convocation.
  3. Serve on at least one committee of the Board as is necessary.
  4. Attend one other face-to-face meeting during the year, usually a fly-in meeting at the most convenient airport.

D. Board Member Expenses. NWAC does not cover any of the expenses of Board members. These are borne either by the individual board member or the church of the individual board member. In most cases, where ministers serve on the board, their churches in fact bear those expenses. For the elders, some churches bear the expense and others are borne by the individual elder.

E. Suggested Process. If you wish to nominate someone for the Board of Directors:

  1. Please discuss with the person in advance so he/she has an understanding of the commitment they are making.
  2. Send their name, address, telephone number and e-mail address to the nominating committee:

    e-mail: dgorman@srnm.com

  3. The nominating committee will discuss the matter with the nominee prior to the convocation and answer any and all questions he or she may have.
